Career Path Selection

Build Career Success. Giraffe Learning Featured Program.

According to MIT’s Career Advising & Professional Development Department, a career plan alongside a choice of major and university is essential. In his book The Innovation Biome, Dr. Mehta – educator, entrepreneur, and author – emphasizes that students need to be specialists in their early teenage years in order to become exceptional in the future. We have seen so many talented students missing this time window, and that is why we want you to have a proper career plan.

For Whom?

  • All students who want to continue their higher education in English speaking countries, especially Canada and the US
  • Currently in Grade 8 and above

What is a Career Path?

  • A strategy to support students’ transitions from education into and through the workforce
  • Integrate programs and services to develop students’ core academic, technical, and employable skills

How Does Giraffe Career Path Selection Work?

  1. We assess students’ personal strengths, weaknesses, interests, and personalities.
  2. We use big data to identify the specific jobs that fit students the best.
  3. Giraffe experts prepare a detailed report with 5-7 preliminary career options, each with required skills, desired education level, expected salary, and predicted future growth.
  4. Students and families discuss the options and select 3-4 options.
  5. Based on students’ final career options, we set goals for them to ensure that the target university and the target faculty/major are most suitable.

What Can You Expect?

We are not career coaches; however, we integrate career advising with academic advising. With our support, students can:

  • Visualize future direction, achieve major-career fit, and determine future areas of studies in universities
  • Avoid wasting time from switching schools, majors, and faculties
  • Avoid wasting time on irrelevant extracurricular activities or exams (e.g. computer science students taking AP psychology)

How Do We Find the Most Suitable Career Road Map?

  • We measure who the students are
    • Students’ characteristics (abilities, interests, working style)
    • Students’ requirements (required education level, required skill sets)
    • Students’ experience (training, work, volunteer, social involvement)
    • Students’ personalities
  • We measure career attributes
    • Career requirement (activities involved, work context)
    • Workforce characteristics (labor market trend, occupational outlook)
    • Occupation specific information (salary, description, tools)
  • We conduct a multi-dimensional career analysis assessment
    • Find out the most suitable career path among 950+ occupations

A Case Study – Amy’s Determination to Be a Psychiatrist

When Amy came to Giraffe Learning, she was an excellent student but lacked self-motivation. She was capable of studying; however, she did not know what to do in the future. We conducted a thorough assessment of her skills, interests, and personality. Based on her assessment results, we identified 3 major career categories (i.e., medical professional, post-secondary instructor, biological scientist) that suit her the most. Within each category, we recommended at least 5 specific occupations. After her consultation with Giraffe experts, Amy decided to take the path towards a psychiatrist. Now, Amy has an intrinsic motivation and works hard towards her career destination.

“I didn’t realize the importance of my career path. All I wanted was to enter a top rank university. I am in UPenn right now, but I have switched my major a few times. I don’t know what to do in the future. I wish I could let Giraffe plan for me.” – Christine F.
