GIRAFFE A+ English

Knowledge points are carefully selected and categorized to allow students to have more comprehension and deeper understandings to each topic.

On top of knowledge itself, students will also learn study skills such as:

Qualitative Analysis Skills:Articles consist of words and contexts that are difficult to have quantitative measures. In order to understand the meaning, whether implied or not, students have to make sense of written words and general rules that they try out, evaluate and transform.

De-centre Skills:English Literature Arts requires students to see other people’s point of view. Students need to switch to a position where they are not central to everything. Our system helps them show empathy and develop theory of mind.

Independence in Cognitive Activities:Students need to have both creative and critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, they need to become aware of the system of rules for language between two or more people. They need to recognize the importance of the context and culture.

Representation and Re-representation Skills:Much of what student learn at school involves the use of signs and symbols. Students make something in order to communicate ideas about the world and the people in it. They choose the materials and the language itself. So they can write, speak, draw, build, dance, sing, act and more.

The Giraffe Learning Method

Our Giraffe Learning Method combines active reading, active teaching, and in-class training.

Active reading – At the beginning of each lesson, our instructors specify the target learning outcomes of that class. Students will actively read through course handouts according to our instructions. They will also try to answer questions related to corresponding learning outcomes.

Active teaching – During the active reading stage, our instructors observe the progress of  students in order to find their personal weakness and problems in their understanding. We will guide students through these difficulties so that they can achieve their learning outcomes.

In-class training – We will provide in-class exercises for students to practice with the new knowledge learned at each class. We will help them with their independent thinking and will provide them strategies on personal improvements.

Why Giraffe?

  1. We offer small classes, with a maximum number of 4 students per class.
  2. Different from traditional classrooms, students must read class handouts and complete in-class exercises under the direction of our instructors at Giraffe. Students are active learners here.
  3. Our original Giraffe course materials have two modules – handouts and exercises. While our handouts provide detailed explanations on course content with specific examples, our original exercises allow students to understand the application of their academic knowledge.
  4. We adopt modular learning strategies that divide knowledge into different levels. Students need to complete each level progressively.
  5. We emphasize on forward learning. Forward learning is strongly encouraged to build self confidence in math learning and pave the way of later education. Therefore, we help students become prepared for more rigorous programs such as AP and IB.

If you prefer private sessions, please contact us for details.
