Giraffe A+ English

There are no gifted kids, only forward learners.

Giraffe A+ program is the only program that focuses on forward learning in greater Vancouver. Under the current education system, students find academics so easy at their early ages that they stop developing their learning skills. When they encounter significantly increased difficulties in their grade 11 and 12, they find it too hard to catch up. That’s why we want them to learn forward to push themselves beyond their limits at their early ages.

We focus on this ideology so that students can enhance self-learning skills and be prepared to take advanced courses such as AP and IB confidently. We help students go beyond what they’re learning in school in order to constantly challenge them, because we want them to become active learners.

Giraffe A+ English course covers the essentials of Gr K-12 BC English curriculum for Gr K-10 students. It has 2 parts. The first part emphasizes reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary building. The second part emphasizes on advanced reading comprehension and writing. Through the extensive amount of worksheets and essays, your kid will improve in all English skills.

The Giraffe Method

Both Giraffe A+ math and A+ English use “The Giraffe Method”, a method of learning created by the founders of Giraffe to ensure every student learns at their own pace, while also learning topics beyond their grade level.

Classes will have a maximum of 4 students at a time where the instructor will hand out worksheets to each student. Students will begin by reading the new material, which also includes examples and exercises. If students have questions at any time, the instructor is there to help. At the end of class, homework will be given out that must be done by the next class. At the beginning of class, instructors will mark their homework and students must fix all their mistakes in the homework before moving on to new material.

Although it depends on your kid, most current students take 2 classes at Giraffe per week to allow for progression and balance with school. Students who want to learn more are suggested to take 3-4 classes per week. One class is one hour long.

Who Are Your Instructors?

The founders of Giraffe have obtained their master’s degrees, are UBC alumni, and are currently studying at Harvard University for their second master’s degree. Giraffe hires instructors who have recently obtained their bachelor degree, or who are currently in their 3rd year or above in pursuing their bachelor’s degree. Giraffe instructors are from UBC, University of Toronto, and other prestigious universities in North America. We only hire candidates from these universities to ensure that they have a strong academic background and have the most recent knowledge about cutting edge technology. All members of Team Giraffe teach depending on their schedules; however, unless for private classes, students who are in 4-person classes cannot select instructions.

How to Track my Progress?

Giraffe Learning uses a scientific way to measure success. We record, assess, and analyze students’ progress to constantly adjust their learning plans. We acknowledge and celebrate every little success. Our regular assessment and monthly reports allow you to visualize your children’s progress and improvement. We also re-assess students every 3 months to help the student pick up any knowledge points he/she has lost along the way.
