Giraffe Forward Learning – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the methodology of your learning system? Do you have designated teachers for my kids? How many classes should my kids take per week?

Both Giraffe A+ math and A+ English use “The Giraffe Method” (click to view details), a method of learning created by the founders of Giraffe to ensure every student learns at their own pace, while also learning topics beyond their grade level. Classes will have a maximum of 4 students at a time where the instructor will hand out worksheets to each student. Students will begin by reading the new material, which also includes examples and exercises. If students have questions at any time, the instructor is there to help. At the end of class, homework will be given out that must be done by the next class. At the beginning of class, instructors will mark their homework and students must fix all their mistakes in the homework before moving on to new material. Although it depends on your kid, most current students take 2 classes at Giraffe per week to allow for progression and balance with school. Students who want to learn more are suggested to take 3-4 classes per week. One class is one hour long.

2. What are the educational background and qualifications of Team Giraffe?

The founders of Giraffe have obtained their master’s degrees from Harvard University. Giraffe hires instructors who have recently obtained their bachelor’s degree, or who are currently in their 3rd year or above in pursuing their bachelor’s degree. Giraffe instructors are from UBC, the University of Toronto, and other prestigious universities in North America. We only hire candidates from these universities to ensure that they have a strong academic background and have the most recent knowledge about cutting-edge technology. All members of Team Giraffe teach depending on their schedules; however, unless for private classes, students who are in 4-person classes cannot select instructions.

3. If my children are currently in ELL programs, can they still participate in the A+ Math and English?

We strive to support students from Grade K to Grade 10 through our A+ Math and English programs. We understand that some students may not use English as a primary language at home and may currently study under the English Language Learner (ELL) Program. As long as students have certain levels of English understanding, they are encouraged to enroll in our program. We assess students’ English abilities prior to the first class to ensure that they start at a comfortable level.
