Why are we Giraffe Learning?

We have seen many students who become bewildered about their future amid their academic journey, since they do not know how to study or, more vitally, why to study. Some students never think about their career path and hence randomly choose their university majors. Some students lack foundations in Math or English and struggle in their senior years. Some students are overwhelmed by their long list of extracurricular activities which are useless to their university applications.

As Harvard alumni, we want to share our academic expertise with students to help them study beyond grade so that they are better prepared for advanced learning programs like the AP. Meanwhile, we consolidate professional knowledge and human resource tools to provide a one-stop, holistic solution. We help students identify their career goals, establish academic plans, learn forward, and prepare adequately for their university applications. We strive to help students recognize what to learn, how to learn, and why to learn, transforming students into symbolic “giraffes” who stand higher, see further, and think forward to the future. That’s why we are Giraffe Learning.

Eric Gu

Eric is a co-founder of Giraffe Learning. He received his Master of Management at the prestigious Harvard University. Eric holds a Master of Engineering and a Bachelor of Applied Science with Distinction, both from the internationally reputable University of British Columbia. He has more than 10 years of experience in helping students plan their university applications and prepare for admission documents. With his support, students received offers from Harvard, Princeton, Columbia , Cornell, UC Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Dartmouth, UBC, U of T, McGill, etc. As he continues his legend at Giraffe Learning, Eric strives to help students chase their dreams.

Ran Wang

Ran is a co-founder of Giraffe Learning. She graduated from Harvard University with a Master of Management degree. As an excellent scholar, she obtained a BSc. with Distinction in the Combined Honors in Math and Statistics from UBC. In order to recognize her exceptional achievement, the Department of Statistics awards her the Stanley W. Nash Medal, the most prestigious prize for the best graduate in UBC’s Statistics program. As an expert in Math and Statistics, she further obtained a MSc. in Statistics from SFU. Ran believes that understanding and practice are equally important in students’ learning process. She is going to continue her teaching excellence at Giraffe Learning.

Ryan C

Ryan graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s of Science with Distinction in Behavioural Neuroscience. With extensive knowledge in psychological research, he also studied Biology, Chemistry, and Math as part of his multidisciplinary degree. Thus, he has significant insight into what is expected of first-year undergraduates entering Arts and Science faculties. As a scholar of science, Ryan has always understood the value of academic education and forward learning, and he is a recipient of the Dean’s Honour List in recognition of his academic efforts.

Maneeta J

Maneeta is currently studying at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Science. Ever since she was young, Maneeta has strived to pursue a good education and be a strong academic achiever. She was recently awarded the Governor General's Award for being the top academic student at her high school.
Not only is Maneeta passionate about learning, but she is a firm supporter of women's rights, climate action, racial equality, and animal rights as she has been devoted to a vegan lifestyle for almost 2 years now. During this pandemic, Maneeta joined the UBC PATHs club – a committee which focuses on spreading awareness and fundraising for research on Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s disease.

Boris C

Boris is moving into his fourth year towards his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology Degree from the University of British Columbia. Resonating with Giraffe’s core value, Boris believes that fostering positive study habits and personalized education is essential in academic success. Boris is a keen learner who achieved academic excellence throughout his years in both Steveston-London Secondary School and UBC. He had an average of 96% in Grade 12, and maintained straight As at UBC, with many courses achieved A+.

Michelle X

Michelle is a third-year Arts student at the University of British Columbia. In addition to her scholarly interests, she is deeply involved in orchestral and solo-violin playing, demonstrated in the various orchestras she has performed and competed with throughout high school and her current role as the lead violinist in the UBC Musical Theatre Troupe. Michelle balances various extracurriculars, namely those reflecting her musical interests with her school work to maintain a high academic standing. Thus, she wishes to pass on her academic knowledge and good study habits to students while setting an example of managing a heavy workload.

Ashnoor A

Ashnoor is currently a 4th-year student majoring in Microbiology & Immunology at the UBC. His passion for science and healthcare is fueled by his aspirations to attend medical school in the future. Ashnoor has achieved academic success throughout his time at UBC as he has been a recipient of the Dean’s Honour List. Along with his academic efforts, he is very passionate about his research outside of the classroom. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was part of an immunology laboratory at Vancouver General Hospital to study the anti-inflammatory response against coronaviruses.

Zechariah N

Zechariah is moving into his third year at the University of British Columbia, where he pursues a bachelor's in biochemistry with a minor in commerce. However, his passion for learning has allowed him to develop a versatile skill set across Math, Business, English, and the Sciences. His propensity to learn has allowed him to achieve academic success, and he now hopes to pursue a career as a research professor. His time in the incentive program at R.C. Palmer Secondary fostered his passion for learning and achieving excellence. He maintained a 94% average in the accelerated incentive program and further challenged himself with AP Chemistry and AP Calculus where he obtained a perfect score on both AP exams.

Karen S

Karen is Giraffe’s beloved student. She came to Giraffe Learning at Gr. 10 and participated in a variety of Giraffe Programs from A+ Math and English, Grade 11&12 courses, to University Application Consulting. Karen attends Steveston-London Secondary School. As a hard-working student, she maintains an average of 95% through her senior years. As a freshman-to-be, Karen recently received her dream offer from the U of T Rotman Business school with a residency at Innis College. While celebrating academic success, Karen is proactively involved in social activities. As the VP of the International Students Club, she helps international students participate in school events as well as assists them better integrate into the Canadian community. Karen feels excited to assist Giraffe Learning by creating promotion posters and articles.
